Cwmtydu
Cwmtydu beach is situated approximately 4 miles south-west
of New Quay and 8 miles north-east of Aberporth on a beautiful stretch of the
Ceredigion coastline in West Wales. Set in a secluded cove at the end of the Dewi valley, this tranquil beach enjoys unspoilt views over
Cardigan Bay.
Cwmtydu is believed to have once been a popular smugglers
cove with pirates making use of its many hidden caves for their plunder. The
beach was also used by ships to land cargoes of limestone which would then be
burned in the lime kiln which stands in front of the beach to make fertiliser.
Today this lovely beach is popular destination among
walkers, nature lovers, and holiday makers alike. With the Ceredigion Coast
Path passing through Cwmtydu from Llangrannog in the south-west to New Quay in
the north-east, spectacular cliff top views across Cardigan Bay can be enjoyed
in both directions. This unspoilt stretch of coastline also offers the
opportunity to spot dolphins, porpoises and grey Atlantic seals as well as a host
of bird life. For people enjoying a holiday in West Wales, Cwmtydu beach
offers a peaceful retreat with caves to explore at low tide.
Parking at Cwmtydu is available at the small sea front car
park and the larger car park located a short walk along the road where a café
and public conveniences can be found. Also situated just two miles inland from
Cwmtydu is the Crown Inn & Restaurant at Llwyndafydd, with further cafés,
pubs and restaurants located in nearby New Quay.
